UIGEA Contravenes EU Gambling Laws
The EU Commission have ruled the U.S Justice Department "crackdown" on European online casino companies directly contravenes guidelines put in place by the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
While the EU Commission won't be filing a complaint with the WTO, American politician Barney Frank has suggested that he's "struck by the people who think we have to abide absolutely and religiously by the WTO ... but when it comes to banning gambling and the WTO, they ignore it."
It's believed that the States will now have to work closely to stay within the guidelines set by the WTO, as the EU have suggested that "U.S. laws on remote gambling and their enforcement against EU companies constitute a barrier to market access on EU economic interests."
While the EU agree that internet gambling should be legislated by each nation, America's contravening of WTO rules suggests that the UIGEA is already built on unsteady foundations and may well fall apart in the coming years. However, even though the UIGEA is in place, US players can still wager on casino games at the likes of Rushmore Casino
