VictoryLand Casino in Macon County, Alabama has reopened, after a judge ruled that Bob Riley and his so-called “anti-gambling task force” do not have the jurisdiction to close the casino.

Over the past few weeks, we have reported how Governor Riley has unwittingly stirred up racial tensions in Alabama by cracking down on gambling venues which he believes house “Vegas style slots” – which are currently illegal in the state. However, VictoryLand Casino has reopened, along with its “bingo machines” and the casino’s owner has suggested that without a court order or a search warrant, Riley’s task force won’t be able to raid VictoryLand without warning.

However, John Tyson, who is in charge of Governor Riley’s task force, has hit out against the judge’s ruling. Tyson suggested that Judge Tom Young’s, “temporary restraining order”, which restricts Tyson from exercising his authority in Macon County “is a poster child for corruption”. In comparison with Tyson’s view, who believes that VictoryLand is operating illegally, the district attorney for Macon County has declared that VictoryLand’s casino games are legal and above-board.
