Video Poker Boss Linked to the Mob

Video Poker
Casey Szaflarski, the multi-million dollar owner of a booming video poker business in Chicago allegedly has links to organised crime families in the state. Szaflarksi has been noted as a key target of an ongoing federal investigation which is analysing the mob’s links to video poker machines in the state. As video poker machines, and other forms of video gaming, have been legalised in Chicago, police and the FBI have been ensuring that the business remains as mob-free as possible.
However, according to reports in the Chicago Sun-Times, mob bosses have been caught on tape “welcoming” the new legislation, as they have dominated the video poker industry for many years in the state. While Szaflarski hasn’t been charged with any crimes, in 2009 he was stopped by police and found to have over $6,000 in cash on him. Court documents have alleged that Szarflaski gained the cash by splitting video poker takings “50-50” with bar owners.

getting rid of the bad guys
This article actually makes the point that due to the enactment of the new laws regarding video poker, the law enforcement community is finally cracking down on the illegal operators. Of course, there were bad guys involved , they were breaking the law. That is what they do. Now we are able to ferret them out by tight regulation instead of no regulation.
It worked for the Lottery ( we eliminated the "Numbers" rackets. It worked for the Casinos ( we investigated the investment trail) and "caught " the bad guys in the Rosemont deal. We did it in the Beer and Liquor Industry ( after we legalized alcohol again, we got rid of Capone and his cronies through the 3 tier legislation that exists today) It will work in the video poker industry.
We are already catching them and we haven't even started the extensive background checks.
