William Hill Restrict Football Wagers
William Hill has suggested they will restrict end of season football bets, after complaints raised by another bookmakers, Blue Square, regarding betting fluctuations on lower league games.
Blue Square, who currently sponsor their own football league, first raised complaints after they received a rise in bets on lower league matches. Now William Hill has announced that they may restrict end of season football wagers. However, the company have suggested they won’t follow Paddy Power’s move and suspend all wagers on end of season games in Ireland’s football league.
A spokesman for William Hill, Graham Sharpe, suggested that William Hill “would be much less backward in coming forward” regarding suspending football bets. Noting that William Hill would be “more likely to watch matches more carefully to avoid being left with a substantial liability”, Sharpe suggested that they will monitor both large bets, suggesting “it could be lots of small bets on only one outcome.”
