Wynn to move Casino Operations from Las Vegas to Macau
Wynn Resorts
Steve Wynn, founder of the Wynn casino empire, has hinted that he may move his company’s headquarters from Las Vegas to Macau.
The move is set to coincide with a new Macau project which is expected to be completed in 2014 and is another sign that Macau has overtaken the spiritual home of gambling, Las Vegas, as the world’s premier gambling destination.
The announcement has not gone down well in Las Vegas, with some seeing Wynn fleeing a metaphorical sinking ship. U.S Rep. Shelley Berkley believes any potential move would be a "devastating blow" to the local economy.
In preparation for a move, Wynn also stated that his top executives will begin to spend more time in Macau, where the company has already begun laying its foundations. Wynn Resorts currently has two resorts in Macau; the Wynn Macau and the Wynn Macau Encore. Wynn floated on the Hong Kong stock exchange last year and raised $1.6 billion (US) in the process.
