Youtube to Offer Online Casino Adverts
Google has announced that online casinos will now be able to advertise on Youtube, after the search giant announced it was relaxing current advertisement guidelines on the video website. Google, which in 2008 allowed gambling operators to advertise using Google Adwords, has suggested it will offer casinos the chance to appear on specially selected brand channels, as well as on video pages and on the homepage of Youtube. Google has made clear that before viewing an advertisement, visitors will have to confirm they are aged 18 or over and Youtube users with accounts who are aged over 18 will also be served the advertisements.
New Media Age has announced that Ladbrokes has been the first operator so far to advertise on Youtube, although it’s believed other online casinos will soon follow suit. James Cashmore, of Google, has suggested that the search company has “been in discussions with brands and agencies about this for more than two years”. Cashmore also noted that he is positive the advertisements won’t be displayed to underage users. Cashmore also observed that, while Google has been working with the problem gambling charity GamCare, there has been no direct consultation from the industry watchdog about the new Youtube advertisements.
